Whistleblower Hotlines
Internal controls may not always be sufficient to contain a high occurrence of fraud and therefore whistleblower hotlines constitute a proven tool for anti-fraud work. The setting up and management of whistleblower hotlines bear the following benefits:
• The mere existence of whistleblower hotlines acts as an additional deterrence tool for employees who become aware that their activities can be reported anonymously by fellow colleagues, contractors, clients and suppliers,
• The whistleblower hotlines represent an early warning system where preliminary information is gathered for further investigating.
An experienced team of investigators interacts over the phone, the internet and when possible physically with the whistle blowers in order to develop the information, determine the validity of the information, as well as develop intelligence.
It is important to outsource the whistleblower hotlines in order to protect the identity of whistleblowers. Often employees, suppliers, contractors, clients and other third parties wish to report but fail to do for fear of reprisals. An employee or a third party who reports someone suspected of any white-collar crime, embezzlement, fraud or unethical behavior has to be fully protected.
